Survey of the Occupational Enviroments and the Incidence of Low Back Pain in Workers-Seongnam Industrial Zone


Abstract
This descriptive study provides base line on the incidence of work-related LBP within the 379 workers in Seongnam city Industrial Zone from September 1 to December 31, 1988.
The major resules are follows;
1. The incidence of occupational back pain in workers showed 260 persons(68.6£¥), particularly the most frequently back troubled jobs were the Textile, Wearing manufacture company.
2. Analysis of years of job experience revealed 52.3 percent of workers with back pain who had worked under 2 years.
3. Of the 260 workers with back pain, Body-postures required in their work situation was sitting position 111persons(42.7£¥), sitting & standing 97(37.3£¥), standing 52(20.0£¥).
4. When the chair did not fit on their working, the incidence of LBP was 81.2 percent. But the desk did not fit, the incidence of LBP was 50 percent(P<0.005).
5. Significant differences were reported for the frequency of lifting. And back pain group(71.9£¥) had much more lifting than no back pain group(P<0.005).
6. No significant relationships were identified between the occupational satisfaction and the two LBP categories(P>0.005).
7. In analysis of consultation for their first-time experience of LBP; No counsellor 4.4£¥, A friend or colleague 25.8£¥, A occupational health personnel only 1.9£¥.
